they sell the best dried mango pieces in town

(January, 2006. Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.)

Lights outside of Yiu Fung. Would have liked to shoot the store itself and show people all the rows of jars and stuff, but I didn't quite dare to point a camera directly into the store, with customers and store people. Am I being too polite? I would do it if they wouldn't notice me, or if I wouldn't be in their way, but sadly, no. (This is why I'm not a photojournalist...?? :P)

I say shoot until someone asks you what you're doing, then just giggle and bat your eyelashes :)

Nah... they looked kinda skittish and I don't want to be black listed or something. I want their mangos! :P

If I looked like a tourist now... maybe they'd leave me alone. Start dressing and talking Japanese?? :P

Mimi, you're a photographeur. Time to spring for one of those wicked little Rollei rangefinders on eBay and put it in your handbag ...

Boy, you have no idea how many more cameras, how much more lighting equipment I want. The Rollei twin lens medium format being one of them! I'll feel just like Richard Avedon. :P

I shot this with a Contax T3, which I actually *do* keep in my handbag all the time. Small, looks like a simple snapshot camera, but ZEISS LENS!

(Btw, I love the word "photographeur." It feels so edgey and classy.)

Well, you can get Zeiss rangefinders! For a few thousand dollars. ;) Is this Contax the one you brought to NYC? I looked up a few reviews, it looks pretty neat. But for that price, one can get a Nikon D50 with a very serviceable lens! I suppose the size cannot be beat ...

Nah, I didn't have my T3 when I went to NY last time. I was just shooting with my little Canon point and shoot digital thing, the size of which I really like, and the T3 is comparable in that respect. It's small enough to fit into a small handbag, which is why I love it so much, and it doesn't call that much attention to itself. I can just be some tourist taking a casual shot. Also, unlike my Canon, the T3 is a film camera, and has a Zeiss lens. :P The pictures I took with the Canon I can only use for fun, but what I'm getting from the T3 is much higher quality from the glass and from it being on film.

They stopped making it though, and the price for that camera on ebay is shooting up... or I'd consider getting a back up. :P
