You know what it is? I'm reading your photos in terms of cinema. And with the play of shadows you use, it's like the photo is saying "Here, look at this, this is a completely safe thing, composed perfectly." But at the same time, my eyes are drawn to the surrounding shadows that frame those objects, and I'm constantly thinking, "What's in those shadows that I can't see?"

Which explains why this is my favorite photo on your site.

I think I like cinematic lighting, framing... but I'm definitely not a film nut, which feels a bit strange to me. ^_^; (e.g. the last movie I saw was the Illusionist, which makes it months since I've seen a film.) I've also been accused (in a "let me point it out to you" way) of tending towards horizontals vs. vertical frames, which is true, and I also like light to fall off. I've also been told that my images have a narrative quality, though I don't actively construct a narrative... I like mood/atmosphere, which might contribute to that.

Am glad you enjoy the pictures! ^_^ Come to think of it, Lisa also thinks my pictures have a dark element in them, so perhaps you two are of the same opinion.

Well, yes, there is that, too. I should think that goes without saying.

There is no correct answer to that question.
