fortune depends on the tone of your voice

(May, 2006. Upper East Side, New York.)

so sing while you still can
while the sun hangs high up above

wonderful songs of love
beautiful songs of love

-- from Songs of Love, by Ben Folds

electrical discharge

(March, 2006. Pasadena, California.)

Recovering from 2 days in Baltimore, and it's gotten really hot today in New York City.
Need a bit of a jolt, a bit of energy. Let's get going already!

you’ll find ‘em on barney's fourth floor

(May, 2006. Chicago, Illinois.)

Different Barney's, but I did find something on Barney's fourth floor today. Can't settle on a desk/tv shelf/kitchen shelf for a week and a half, but a spin on Madison Ave with Kat and suddenly I have more than a pair of on-sale sandals on my hands.

Then, we had dinner at Serafina and saw Tobey Maguire at the next table. First one of these where I actually a) know who the person is, and b) recognised the person. Four years in LA, and I've *maybe* seen Winona Ryder shopping at American Rag (unconfirmed cos she was standing in front of me at the register and it's hard to see and I didn't want to stare), and saw some guy from Duran Duran leave Catwalk as I walked in (still don't know who it was, wouldn't have noticed at all except store person was calling her boss about the order he'd just placed).

In the mean time, it's thunder and lightning and pouring rain in New York City...

pour the wine dear

(March, 2006. Los Feliz, California.)

If I were there I would smother you with hugs.
Instead I send you one of your favourite signs from home.
And my love.

i wouldn't mind perhaps spending little time with you

(January, 2006. Homantin, Hong Kong.)

I unpacked my kitchen, and discovered that I still have my two tall sundae glasses. This is optimism, that I'd be a) having sundaes at home, and b) I'd have a guest to have sundaes with. I don't remember how long I've had them, but I've never actually used them.

Yesterday, while I was at Crate and Barrel, I picked up a pair of dessert wine glasses.

Hope springs eternal.

love is a desert and i need it to rain

(February, 2006. Los Angeles, California.)

Andrea told me it's raining in LA.
It's been storming in New York too.

but fire thought she'd really rather be water instead

(February, 2006. Pasadena, California.)

Back to being a photo blog, or something...

you to thank

(April/May, 2006. Niagara Falls, New York. Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona. Chicago, Illinois. Amherst, New York. Navy Pier Chicago, Illinois.)

I had a hell of a trip, girl. Miss you, and much love.

hrm

Blogger has been hiccuping on uploading/posting images since last night. Um.

In any case, I am now moved into my new apartment, aka Cardboard Box Fortress. The cable man will come tomorrow, and hopefully I'll have my internet connection up and running then. (Can't live without it!) My phone line should theoretically be up already, but since I haven't yet located my phone, I haven't been able to check if it works.

Aaaiii.

no music no life

(May, 2006. Between Nebraska and Iowa.)

Some notes on our soundtrack for this trip:
- Dual iPod DJing takes mad skills
- Limits on foreign language numbers, which put a serious damper on my music collection
- Original idea for audio books was scrapped as the road was too noisy for us to be able to hear the words well enough
- Jazz, alternative, country, trash pop and everything in between as needed
- Some favourites (and there are more):
i) The Way, Fastball --> THEME SONG
ii) Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend, Marilyn or Nicole
iii) Daughters, John Mayer
iv) Careless Whisper, Ben x Rufus 4FR
v) All of Scarlet's Walk, Tori Amos
vi) Toxic, Britney Spears
vii) Landslide, Dixie Chicks
viii) I've Committed Murder, Macy Gray
ix) Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, Santa Esmeralda
- Additional road mix support from Miss K and Miss Kitty

we make it up as we go along

(May, 2006. Interstate 81-S detour, between New York and Pennsylvania.)

(May, 2006. Lincoln Tunnel, New York.)

Can't believe it. After 4,000 miles, we drove into New York City. And promptly got lost, upon exiting the Lincoln Tunnel.

Thank God New York isn't too hard to navigate, what with the numbered streets and avenues. That is, when your navigator is looking at the correct (New York) map and not the Chicago one... :P (Girl, you're never gonna live this down!)

i'm crazy but i get the job done

(May, 2006. Niagara Falls, New York.)

By some crazy stroke of luck, our trip plan for when we would be at Niagara Falls coincided with when Ben Folds would perform at the Niagara University. I was hoping that our trip would intersect somehow with the Folds Tour, and it did!

(This pic is from the night before we went to see the show... The Hard Rock Cafe was one of the only things open after 9pm around Niagara. A little preview, I guess. :P)

(May, 2006. Niagara Falls, New York.)

Also, 80's Annie Lennox is hawt.

luck be a lady

(May, 2006. Niagara Falls, New York.)

At that very same store (we can't seem to leave): Wow. I am my own lucky name!

Click the image to enlarge and see. :P

best store of this whole trip

(May, 2006. Niagara Falls, New York.)

We found this store along the little strip of shops and restaurants on the US side of the Falls.

It's where souvenirs from the 70's and 80's go to die.

It is the BEST.

you've never been to niagara falls?

(May, 2006. Niagara Falls, New York.)

"I have seen water, its water, that's all..."

Yup, we were tourists. We went on that ride. Blue ponchos!

where it all goes down

(May, 2006. Niagara Falls, New York.)

Night and day, day and night.

suddenly, deutschland

(May, 2006. Columbus, Ohio.)

Andrea said that the German Village actually did look like it could have been a part of Germany. And what did we do? We got food.

when you knew me i was a dandelion

(May, 2006. Columbus, Ohio.)

Coins in ponds, fields of dandelions, now if only I had an eyelash to blow away too...

chocolate kiss vs. neon ice-cream cone

(May, 2006. Chicago, Illinois.)

I swear, that Hershey's kiss is about to leap down from its perch and take out that Ghiradelli's ice-cream cone...

public transportation yay

(May, 2006. Chicago, Illinois.)

We actually took public transportation, been driving ourselves around for so long now it seems. Cities, yay! Got ourselves over to the Anne Nathan Gallery and had the nice people there to pull out Yoko's paintings for us to look at. I love Yoko's work. You should check it out too.

cheap thrills

(May, 2006. Chicago, Illinois.)

The funnest thing to shoot and play at in Chicago. The bean thing in Millenium Park!

fear of heights

(May, 2006. Chicago, Illinois.)

From the John Hancock viewing deck in Chicago. Past deserts, mountains, plains, we're on to bodies of water.

(More soon!)

turn right for unknown danger, turn left for elvis at restaurant

(April, 2006. I-80 East, Iowa.)

Gang hideout or meth lab?? YOU DECIDE!

(Yeah, girl. Let's check before we stop at any abandoned ANYTHING from now on...!)

sofa+ tv + sweatpants + manga = ultra relax

(April, 2006. Coralville, Iowa.)

It was good to see you, girl. Like I said, just like being in Bates again, with your laptop going and being surrounded by manga (BL!!). *huggity*, and much much love.

weather patterns

(April, 2006. On the I-80 East, Nebraska.)

There's a rainbow there. Can you see it?

let it snow let it snow let it snow

(April, 2006. Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.)

Steve and Andrea indulged me and let me climb into the snow bank on the side of the road in the mountains. Andrea sank. Then I sank. But it was cool. Then it snowed (just a little) overnight. My car has never had snow fall on it before! V. exciting.

(April, 2006. Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.)

And an elk for Andrea. I loved smelling the ponderosa pines, I did...
