peppermint iced tea

(February, 2006. Glendale, California.)

It started here, where Andrea and I would sit for hours for the free wireless.
Now I make 2-litre pitchers of the stuff at home and chill it in the fridge.
I *heart* peppermint iced tea!

never get into a car with a stranger (unless it's a limousine)

(June, 2006. San Francisco, California.)

Never thought I'd be in a stretch limo.
Don't really like the car aesthetically, and never had the occasion to sit in one before (prom came and went, we all got carted to the location in school buses, didn't attend any formals in college, and no such events in art school), but one just happened to be sitting there outside the hotel when we needed a car to the airport.
In my head, they reek of excess, not luxury (like Pijus says, it's easier to double quantity than quality), in a slightly dated way. Even the colours in my shots has that 70s/80s tinge.

(It was fun though!)

star trails

(June, 2006. Somewhere midway between SFO and JFK.)

... the earthbound kind.
There's one thing I haven't done yet that I've been wanting to do in LA: drive up into the Hollywood Hills at night and look down.
(Have caught glimpses through the years, but want to make a special trip and really look.)

there and back again

(June, 2006. San Francisco, California.)

Even color balance becomes a bit rosier after wedding champagne? I remember it was as dusty pink as that light caught on film.

Ever since Paris, I've grown in my appreciation of champagnes and white wine. Haven't met a red that I've like yet though.

(June, 2006. San Francisco, 2006.)

25% hit rate isn't bad.

you go to my head

(June, 2006. Carnegie Hall, New York.)

That'll teach me to forget my T3. My phone is a phone, not a camera.
Also, that'll teach me to check the date on the ticket so I don't accidentally miss a show. Was incredibly lucky to buy another ticket at face value for the second night from a fan who can't make it, seat in the 6th row even.

I wrote something that was a mile long, but I'm scrapping it. I will say two things though:
1) I love jazz standards type songs, so Rufus in top form + some of my favourites = dream come true.
2) SAW VIKTOR & ROLF!! (Here's a pic of them.) I thought my heart would stop when I spotted them getting seated a few rows over. During intermission, they were holding court in a hallway, and I had to get through them to get to the foyer. And so (this is the dorkiest thing ever) I asked Viktor or Rolf to please "excuse me." Rolf, or was it Viktor, said, "oh sorry, I'm in your way." Why couldn't I have told them I thought they did beautiful work? But still, I guess everything *does* happen in Manhattan.

parting shots

(June, 2006. New York, New York.)

It's a bit weird, to think that the bubble of space that is my car isn't mine anymore. Still feel like it's out there for me to go back to. I especially liked driving in the rain, enclosed, safe, dry, air conditioned against the water, humidity and the heat. Here's to you, baby.

In other news, just saw Rufus Wainwright at Carnegie Hall, doing the same show/set Judy Garland did in 1961 also at Carnegie Hall. I'll talk more when I'm a little more coherent and intelligent (it's 2am), probably when I get back from San Francisco...

you oughta see the view from here

(May, 2006. Chelsea, New York.)

One day, maybe, I'll own a building too.
And have a penthouse photo studio.

trains and planes

(May, 2006. Between New York and Baltimore.)

I like it, traveling.
Aiports, train stations, always smell like possibility to me.
San Francisco this weekend.

(May, 2006. Baltimore, Maryland.)

Kitty -- have a wonderful show tonight!! Love and hugs and luck and all good things, my jie jie.

random acts of patriotism

(April, 2006. Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.)

(April, 2006. Nebraska.)

So the World Cup has started! Saw a couple of guys on the street, in the subway, sporting the shirts of their teams... at a cross walk, one guy yelled "ENGLAND!" and then went on his way.

Still, that one graffiti I found at the Grand Canyon takes the cake...

long long way to fall

(May, 2006. Upper East Side, New York.)

I'm getting better at climbing up to my apartment. I'm not as winded when I reach the fifth floor now, as when I first moved in.

In other news, I sold my car today. I miss my baby already!

happiness is a warm kitten

(December, 2005. Homantin, Hong Kong.)

When I was in Colorado, she was in London.
Now I'm in New York, and she's in Sydney.
Somewhere in between, she's been in the Philippines, Kuwait, Taiwan and more.
Her job's making a crazy jetsetter out of her, when she'd really rather be home with her cat.

I'm glad she still remembers to check in.

a toast in your honour

(February, 2006. Glendale, California.)

(January, 2006. Somewhere between Hong Kong and Los Angeles.)

To safe travels and new beginnings.
Much, much love to you, girl.

(p.s. You'll be home in time for the WORLD CUP!!)

china all the way to new york

(January, 2006. Mongkok, Hong Kong.)

This whole day has made me a bit homesick. Had shanghai soup dumplings for lunch with Katherine and Pijus in Chinatown today, then Hong Kong style boba/bubble tea, walked around a bit and found myself some dried seasoned cuttlefish while they played Leslie Cheung's "Monica" in the snack store.

Now it's late at night, my head's in a bit of a funk, and all I want is to listen to ear candy cantonese pop ballads. Thank God for RTHK online show archives.

Friday, June 02, 2006

water water everywhere

(May, 2006. 86 Crosstown Bus, New York.)

It's been storming on and off and on again for the past 2 weeks. These few days have been bouts of sheets and sheets of rain. I do usually enjoy storms, but. Stop already! So I can throw out my cardboard boxes! And walk down the street to do laundry!
