cbgb's

(June, 2006. Lower East Side, New York.)

So, apparently they're closing at the end of October, on Halloween.
I'm glad I got to go once.

coast to coast

(August, 2006. Palm Springs, California./August, 2006. Upper East Side, New York.)

Been getting work done these few days, and I know that I'm getting work done (and I'm tired), but it always feels like there's 2 more days' worth of work ahead of me that I can never quite clear.

I wish there were more hours in a day, or that I don't need to sleep.

In the mean time, it's still storming in New York City.

stormy weather

(August, 2006. West Village, New York.)

It's thunderstorming in New York again. Laundry will have to wait another day.

(This is not a storm picture, this is a I-wish-the-sky's-more-like-this-not-this-grey-crap-AGAIN picture. Not that I don't like gloomy skies, I'd just like it tempered with some that aren't.)

More pool pictures soon, when I get the pics to the subject in question and she's okay with me posting anything.

not a cloud of mad hornets in my face

(August, 2006. Palm Springs, California.)

It's bubbles under water, people.
(This is one of times when I'm really frustrated with web color space... we're losing a whole lot of saturation and contrast here. Download this and look at it in any other program. I dare ya.)

but what if i'm a mermaid

(August, 2006. Palm Springs, California.)

I used to wonder if the little mermaid could string the bubbles together for a necklace, more shimmering and shifting and beautiful than pearls or shells or coral or anything weighed down by their solidity.

I still do.

her phone never stopped ringing

(August, 2006. Midtown Manhattan, New York.)

My girl Karen, the executive PA.

home again home again jiggety jig

(June, 2006. Upper East Side, New York.)

For now, I am going to sleep.
Looking forward to tomorrow, when I'll send stuff to the lab, and process my digital files...

look at me here i am right where i belong

(December, 2005. Pasadena, California.)

Am in LA right now, spent the past few days helping Miyuki straighten out her website, and plan/prep/install her grad show. Serious case of deja vu standing around Stage 2. I thought I already did this once??

do you believe in rock 'n roll

(July, 2006. Hollywood, California.)

So, it's out on J!-ENT. (Scroll down for "WYNNE IP'S HYDE INTERVIEW".) Check the credits under the photos to see which ones I shot.

The pictures on JaME are smaller (scroll down for "Exclusive with Hyde" or here's the direct link), but there are a couple that are not on J!-ENT.

... Finally, you haven't arrived till someone takes a photo you shot and makes an LJ icon out of it. (See if you can spot which one... it's from an image JaME used, not J!-ENT.)

Here's to safe travels, and expedient security checks.

proposal

(July, 2006. Chelsea, New York.)

I wonder what it feels like to get a proposal by graffiti.
I wonder if she said yes?

cookie

(August, 2006. SoHo, New York.)

My favorite character on Sesame Street is the Cookie Monster.

Aside from his wonderful blue fuzziness and wild goggly eyes, I love that he knows what he wants, pursues it unabashedly, and revels and rejoices when he gets it. I feel so happy seeing him stuff himself, crumbs and pieces flying!

soonish (もうすぐ30才)

(November, 2005. Los Feliz, California.)

We were walking back to her apartment when Katherine asked me, "So, what are you going to do on your big birthday this year?" I kind of stared at her. "Isn't it a bit early to consider that just yet?... But, hey, do you know what day Thanksgiving is gonna fall on?"

Never had this problem until I came to the US. Suddenly, my birthday is butting heads with a major holiday and almost everybody leaves town. These pictures are from last year... Miyuki and a few of us went out to see a movie at the Arclight, and then she and I had a little birthday apple pie a la mode at the House of Pies. I had a lovely time. If I plan anything for this year, it'll likely be something small and comfortable, even if this is one of those milestone type birthdays.

p.s. Just looked it up, Thanksgiving is going to fall exactly on my birthday this year. Gah!

(March, 2006. Los Angeles, California.)

If one could have a favorite tunnel, this would be it.

flowers for maria

(July, 2006. Upper East Side, New York.)

She gets flowers every Saturday, if I'm not mistaken. I think it's terribly sweet.

Katherine brought me flowers today, a wild spray of pretty orange and purple and gold, the first flowers I've received since graduation.

12 time zones away, my sister was admitted into the hospital for a viral infection in her stomach. (She's since been discharged.) Her office sent her 62 pink and white roses.

Love and flowers to all my girls, wherever you are.

(May, 2006. Upper West Side, New York.)

Wednesday, August 02, 2006

well, you gotta eat

(July, 2006. Los Feliz, California.)

Three excuses to hang out per day, plus other coffee and snacking possibilities.

jetsetterelle

(January, 2006. Homantin, Hong Kong.)

Karen's in town!

Finally, after Dubai, Berlin, Kuwait... she's in New York. She even visited me in my apartment a bit last night. There was a bit of disjointedness seeing her in my fifth floor tower ("this person should be in Hong Kong"), but the familiarity is overwhelming, if you know what I mean. I've known this girl for how long now? Since kindergarten, when Renee and I would run after her as she communicates with "mission headquarters" through a pink and green doll house plastic fridge. And then we'd put Renee inside one of those huge plastic playground barrels and roll her around in it as fast as we can.

Let's see if she kills me for blogging this picture...
